I just got to see a short film from Poland titled "Most" which is Polish for Bridge. most of the dialogue is in subtitles. It's a story of a single father who operates a railway drawbridge and has to make an split-second decision weather or not to lower the bridge when an ahead of schedule passenger train is coming and his son had just fallen into the mechanism of the bridge.
It's an incredible story of sacrifice. It forces you to really think about things.
I'd have to reccomend, if you can find it, to watch it yourself and decide. You won't come away unmoved.
Just one of those things I had to share...

Thanks, Ben - sounds like one for my youth group to watch. We're always looking for films that force one to think and make hard choices.

Think it's suitable for middle and high schoolers?

That's where I was watching it. I'm one of the youth group leaders at our church. We had a mixed group, probably 7th grade or so and up. It's definatly a movie that prompts discussion. I've been thinking about it on and off all day.

There was a email to the same effect that went around not long ago.

A moving story... What would you do? As Easter approaches we know what God did.

I shall find it.

Was it a VHS or DVD movie?

Cheers,

Last week at ~Our Church~ , we went to see the Italian movie "Life is Beautiful".

We saw the version with sub-titles, but if you look ~HERE~ you'll see a clip of it that has been dubbed in English.

A bittersweet film, it is both funny and very sad. It deals with Nazi concentration camps and Facist Italy during WW II.

Steve,
It was on DVD. the subtitles were intresting as most of the dialogue was in Czech,(Sorry I mis-quoted erlier. Not Polish, But Czech) but there were people in passing in the story that spoke English and they were not subtitled (but any forigners trying to speak English were). the casting was excellent, the footage was Hollywood quality, and the storyline was gripping. Religious or not it is worth a viewing.
I would call the story a parable, as it was really just an example of a much greater question. It does not strictly parallell anything else, but gives a real touch to more lofty thoughts.
