Has your internet speed dropped in the last month? We're getting fiber optic in December, but until then we have to put up with the old system. Recently on the weekends it's become almost non usable due to the increased traffic. Can't wait for the new system to be installed! :encouragement:

seems normal here - speedtest.net usually shows my connection as around 80mbps.

Something similar happened to me. I had an ISP who liked to sign up more and more users but not arrange the infrastructure to support them. At night the speed was OK, but it got slower and slower throughout the day. I found a new ISP. I now have a high-speed fiber-optic connection, and it has worked well for years.

had a positively prehistoric day yesterday. Woke up to find that our provider was down. This is kind of a big deal as 1) it was a national outage and 2) we have only 3 providers in the country - so, 9 million people without interweb.

We had no internet, no cable and no phone (including landline) - it weren't super inconvenienced as we have books to read :ROFLMAO: and antenna TV - besides we were painting a room most of the day - but Many Many businesses had no access to their debit machines - and no access to credit (all of a sudden cash was king - remember cash?) - 911 calls and police stations were having issues. It sort of felt like post hurricane but still with AC. :D

All good this morning but it has reawakened a conversation about backups and the dangers of monopolies.

Small evidence of what an EMP (whether solar generated or man-made) would do to the "modern" communications infrastructure.

JP - you mean the entire country of Canada had no internet? or that one big cable company had no internet?

Either way, I sense nefarious deeds ...

One (of three) cable companies - so about 13/ of the population. Not nefarious (they say) but a maintenance upgrade run amuk (again, they say) :rolleyes2:
