If you go to:

https://www.speedtest.net/

Click GO. It'll take about a minute.

What download speed do you get from the test?

I'm trying to find if my 19 mbps is average, or "pretty awful". There are lots of variables when doing a speed test, so I'm just looking for general results.

Thanks.
Tom M.

I get 71 down, 6 up. But this machine is hardwired, so no WiFi is involved.

4.75 down, 1.43 up

Pretty slow today, then we don't watch TV on it. Haven't today, but we have watched movies on Amazon.

6 down, 1 up. My senior discount plan must think I move slow. Works for what I do including TV.

Thanks gentlemen. The numbers are definitely all over the ballpark.

6 down and 1 up? and works for TV? wow - didn't even know that was possible!

Off peak hours (4AM) I get 70Mbps down, 12Mbps up. I'm on Spectrum.

I'll try again at maybe 8PM today.
Just did a test at 5PM, exactly the same coming and going.

Several years ago, the cable guys ran a new line to remove some splitters that were reducing the signal strength. That probably helped with the speeds.

Thanks Greg. What speed are you actually paying for? (max d/l for your Spectrum "plan")

Don't know. Seems to work too well, there was a very bad golf match over the weekend that it got for free.

Thanks Richard. What streaming system do you use for TV? (Roku, Chrome, etc.)

We have local basic tv and internet thru wire plus netflix on Apple TV. Stream thru wifi with laptop.
Friends are quite happy with Google TV.

With speedtest.net today, 115.5 down, 10.5 up on Cox Cable.

They're all pukes. Now that they have a lock on high speed access they do some really nefarious stuff. FiOS was good for speed but high cost sent me over to the "other guys" (Spectrum) for while now. 66 down 12 up currently

Sounds pretty good to me; unless you're paying for more.

'Ping' is a measure of round-trip delay; how long it takes for your computer's message to be heard by the server at the other end, plus how long it takes for you to get the reply. 14ms is pretty decent there, too.

Sorta like "one day shipping" on Amazon; it doesn't matter how fast the shipping is if they don't get around to sending it for a month!

Great "ping" analogy.

Like the ebay message "Your item has shipped!" - which usually only means the seller has clicked the "shipped" icon.
