Interior rework

Pulled all the interior out of my car on Tuesday. I was not happy with the product I had used for sound deadening and heat deflection. It was a foil backed heavy felt product that was being sold 4-6 years ago. Either the way I had installed it or the Texas heat had done a number on it. Some of the felt had come unglued from the floor pan, some of the foil had come unglued from it's factory felt, and some of the carpeting was just sliding round on top of the foil. I was having to have something to weigh down the rear deck carpet to keep it from flying out on spirited drives and especially hated the dread 'bunch up' that happened in the driver's foot well. I was almost afraid that one would create a 'Prius pedal', as the bunch up could have jammed the accelerator pedal.

I am cleaning all the accumulated debris out of the tub and am going to put down Eastwood's version of Dynamat. When I put down the new carpet a in 2006/7, I had treated the entire area with rust converter, then painted it with a paint that was supposed to work with the converter. All of that seems to have worked well. There are a few places I need to go back over.

My question is, it there any special cleaner/treatment that I need to clean the surface of the tub with, before I start putting down the Eastwood material? I want it to adhere well, so I don't have the detachment issue happen again.

Thanks
Larry

When I did mine (I used Peel & Seal), I used alcohol for the final wipe down. I left it "squeaky clean".

Regarding your comment about "bunch up" below. All of my carpet is glued down with contact cement, but I did make floor-mats that sit on top of the carpet in the foot wells. I was having some issues with the floor-mats bunching.

I ended up using 1/2 x 1/2 aluminum angle stock to anchor the floor mats at the back of each foot-well. I drilled into the horizontal support rather than the floor to help prevent another water entrance point.

Larry,

I have done my entire tub with the Eastwood product and it is very easy to install and it sticks, I would just make sure you do not have any loose paint, I cleaned mine with a damp rag to get rid of any dirt. Great Product and a lot more affordable than the name brand. Made a tremendous in the heat in the car this summer.

Larry, you may want to check out Kool Mat before you get the felt. I used it and it is really a substantial product. Jim

Some of the NW contingent to Midget 50 used a product they got from Home Depot for cheeeep. They liked it. I had the felt and silver stuff installed in my BE when I bought it and took a lot of it out. No room for my size 11's in the foot well and could'nt really tell it did much good. Running Amco copy rubber mats now cause they are easier to keep clean than carpet in the BE. Plan on making up a heat shield for the exhaust pipe.

A little more expensive option is Lizard Skin

https://www.lizardskin.com/

It is a spray on product that works very well. It goes on only a few mils thick so does not take up as much space as the peel and stick insulation. There are two formulas, one for sound deadening and one for heat.

It is available at Summit Racing, Jegs, and Eastwood

I used an insulation product and 3M spray glue (contact cement)from Home Depot and it installed easily. I never drove this car or any other Sprite so I have nothing to compair to. This was the first summer of driving it but unlike you people back east we had a cold summer so any heat from the motor and exhaust was wellcome. I am working on the hard top now and if I put it on thats when I will find out how it does for noise.
