Interior Panel Kits - Any recommendations?

I am thinking about finally getting around to replacing all the the interior panels in my '69 Sprite.

I initially started out thinking I was brilliant and would just use my old busted up panels as templates and cut my own from thin luan, then cover with vinyl I bought from a local fabric shop. While I started on this and could still do it, I don't really like the looks of what I did (a long time back).

I have been considering panel kits from Moss and VickyBrit. Apparently, 1969 is a 'special' 1-off year (according to Moss) and they want a arm & leg for that set. VB lumps '67-'69 all together. I had considered ordering a '67-'68 or 70+ set from Moss earlier.

My question is, does anyone have experience preferences about either Moss or VB sets...and, other than looks, is there something drastically different with the '69 that would cause any of the other year sets to not work?

Thanks
Larry

I believe the panels for the 69 are the same as the 66-68, it is the seats that are different. The side panels I have seen in the kits seemed to be a bit on the flat side and didn't really look all that original.

IMHO, give it another shot at making the panels yourself, there are a lot of great tips on this site. I did mine, using Masonite, a handy jigsaw with plenty of patience and was pleased with the results.

If you are looking for seat covers for a 1969, I have a black vinyl set that I purchased and never installed.

I've made my own for a 1966 using 1/8" Masonite stock from Home Depot, thin sheet foam and black grained vinyl from Joanna's Fabrics. I used the old panels as patterns.

I just bought a Moss set from British Sports Car Restorations, a Moss dealer who offers a nice discount off of retail prices. The Moss set looks fine to me. Although it does look pretty easy to make, if you have the panels for patterns, and are handy with a staple gun. Jim

If you decide to DIY, make sure you have the shorter staples....I found that I had good success with the spray glue but it can get messy. Good luck either way and post pics when you are done!

Thanks for the comments. My question really goes back to whether there is a significant difference (other than look) between say 64-66 (Style D from Moss), 67-69 (style D from Moss), or 70-80 (Style E from Moss).

I also find it interesting that Moss no longer shows year 1969 as a special 1-off year. I wonder why... all my old catalogs had that one year specified separate from the others.
