MGB-GT Interior MGB GT Panel Dimensions?

Armed with unused yards of "Pleather", which I used to recover the door topper, I idled away a couple of evenings making a replacement interior panel for Harold's passenger side footwell. I used a piece of pegboard, placed the old panel on top, marked around it, and cut the board to shape. Covering it was very easy using a staple gun.

Here's the old panel:

And here's the new:

(This is the panel that the map pocket affixes to.)

Now I'm on a roll with this, I'd like to do the driver's footwell panels. The trouble is, they weren't in Harold when I got him, so I have no old panels to use as templates.

Are the measurements for these panels documented anywhere? I doubt that the driver's side panels are simply mirror images of the passenger side ... are they?

Come to that, are the measurements for the various carpet pieces used in the GT available, in case I want to start cutting new carpet?

The footwell shapes are different side-to-side.

I made templates from what goes for "poster paper" here, for the carpet pieces.

That looks great Julian.
I have all the panels from My GT out in a bin in the garage. What you did is exactly what I plan on doing. How thick was the pegboard you used? 1/16" 1/8" ?
I will see if I can get to the bin with the footwell panels when it goes above -20 in my garage, and snap a picture and dementions.

Could make some patterns with some heavy paper and painters tape?

Hi Paul,

It's 1/8" pegboard. The staples I have are just a *tad* too long, so I found I had to fold over the material before stapling. I'm not sure smaller staples are available than the size I'm using.

If you get a chance to take a photo, that would be very useful.

You can measure mine if it helps. It might help to see exactly how they mount, and then make a template.

Hi Steve,

That sounds like a good idea! Whereabouts are you?

Julian...did you use any padding...I made some panels for my GT...but the foam is a tad thick....I covered them in a tweed from a local fabric store....

Hi Rick, no I didn't use padding. The "Pleather" is quite thick ... I'd estimate about double the thickness of the original ICI vinyl ... and is softer (but that may be because it is also newer).
