Interior Door Handle Removal

Need sugggestions for removal of interior door handles on my BJ7. I had no problem removing the window crank handles. Can't seem to get the pins on the door handles to budge. I have used the proper sized punch to no avail. When I tap on the punch nothing gives. I really do not relish the idea of having to use a drill. What methods have you utilized to free these pins?

Have you already tried a good penetrating oil on the pins (WD-40 does not qualify)?

I'd give that a chance to work for a day or two, then try the pin-punch again.

If that doesn't work, and heat is not an option (depending on the usefulness of the panel and quality of the chrome plating), then drilling out the pin is all you're left with.

Thanks for the responses. After lots of cursing and banging I was able to remove the pin. Boy these old beasts can be trying, but you gotta love em.

Mine hates me, it's from years of being a back-burner project, rarely does a project go smoothly-as planned. I just walk away and pick it up later.

Curiously, nothing went wrong during my recent seal replacement (steering box & differential pinion). Maybe she's got a heart after all?
