Interim Carb and choke report

Polished the carb needle rods and I mean hand polished with brass polish before I put things back together. They were really smooth and fitted the top brass centering part to perfection. I also soaked the cork O rings overnight in oil as someone suggested. All went together very smooth, carbs returned to closed position perfectly without fail and it has been 30 min or so with fuel in the system and running the elect pump from time to time.

NO FUEL LEAKS YET ANYWAY.

So the answer is polish the carb needle seats till they are really nice and smooth and fit the top brass centering piece just right. If you use cork O rings soak them overnight in oil.

Waiting for wife to depart the area before I roll her out and fire her up and see if I can get a decent idle and balance and such. Oh yea last nite I removed all the intake back to the manifold and used form a gasket when I put it back up. If I had a leak there I no longer do.

Hey Jack,

Hopefully one of the many BCF'ers with more experience than I will chime in and contradict me, but in my past experience, Form-A-Gasket on the intake manifold is a recipe for disater. Eventually, raw fuel will get on there and eat it away causing a leak.

PS. Brasso on the needles is brilliant! Is that your own idea or did you pick it up here?
 
That was my own idea, not the needles though the carb tube. It was just not as smooth as it should have been.

All seems ok now.

Will keep checking.

Anyone remember what that plymouth starter was that is the same? Drew did you not get one of those, 68 plymouth and you had a number even. I can't seem to find it.
 
Jack, if you use a sealant, make sure it is for fuel system, gas will disolve form-a-gasket if it is the wrong one, and make for rough running etc.(no silly cone either!)
 
I slime a thin coat of Hylomar on 'em. Only thing I've found that gas doesn't attack and still comes apart on disassembly with easy cleanup.
 
Already did it, hehe. said it was not to be immersed in fuel. Used gaskets as well, expect there is very little in there really.
 
Wasn't me with the starter, Jack, I'm still running the original one.
