The prototype Sprite was code named Q1 and originally had a steering wheel from a Healey motorboat. The wheel on eBay appears to be similar to the Healey boat style. Q1 was a red car with a two tone interior, and in the earliest photos, though black and white, it appears the the interior is probably red and white, the wheel being the same two tone as the interior. In any event, in the early photos, the wheel in Q1 does not appear to be black as is the wheel in the eBay ad. Also, Q1 was not apparently broken up. It was re-registered as YNX 684 and sold off. It was being raced as late as the mid 1960's. My historical info comes from John Baggot's excellent book Frogeye Sprite, The Complete Story. I suppose it is possible that Healey replaced the wheel of Q1 before it was sold, or this is a wheel from a Healey boat. Too bad the seller does not offer up some written provenance.
