It's kind of like other antiques, paintings, furniture and firearms whose value is often destroyed by restoration. I don't think there are many cars that qualify for the preservation treatment and still look decent. I know my cars would've looked like crap if they hadn't been restored.

I have a 66 XKE, has the original interior. I'm going to leave it as is. Car has had a repaint so that is out.

To achieve full appreciation & enjoyment from a painting or sculpture all you have to do is look at it. To fully enjoy a classic car you must drive it! It's going to wear out so must be maintained. Eventually it will need to be restored. A restoration is not worth the trouble unless it is done as well as it can.

Of all the expensive things to collect, I've always thought rare wines are the strangest. So what do you do? Keep it in your cellar and you have an old bottle. Open and drink it an you have a short pleasant experience, hopefully, and then and old empty bottle. I'm a firm believer in drinking my wine before it become rare.

I agree, the only rare wine is the one you can't drink. In my mind that makes it worthless.....
