Hi all, I miss my '63 like you wouldn't beleive.
My Dad (who lives in Sarasota) sent me this.
ebay ad for '62 with engine/gearbox swap

anyone know about this car? Nice, I'd like it for my kids to drive (automatic is better for them) the non original drive line would seem a liability to pricing in my mind but we'll see I guess.

Current bid one hundred thirteen bucks. Maybe it's the rope lights under the sills that's throwing folks off.....

yikes, didn't even see that, yuck, still it's a good year and a good looker, although with the drive train hacked up, makes you wonder about A LOT of stuff, brakes up to the task? assuming the transplant has more HP then original (hard to have much less, no offense).

I think that is a chevette engine

I like it,Nice looking car and I believe work was done well

A/T I can see where it would been family friendly. I was at ny auto show and heard a couple of people talking about not even know how to drive a stick. Alot of new large trucks are automatic.
Not for me, need to jam those gears

That being the case,,,,, They figured out exactly how to get less horsepower.... :smirk:

Hi Jeff, long time no see......

Hey Bryan!
What does that Chevy lump make? I read maybe 60, that's pretty pathetic. Much prefer a 1098 at that point. I agree, I'd much rather have a stick for "real driving". Still, it's compelling. Spring has sprung here in West Michigan and I'm feeling the loss of my MIdget very acutely. I won't ever have as real a "roadster" again until I get another. BUT my X1/9 got me through a Michigan winter thank you very much, commute in it every day and it's an absolute joy to drive. Just got back from carving up a little scenic drive in a park. That Fiat handles like nothing I've ever driven, just amazing. Top is off of course, it's really nice but in a very different way from the Midget. I never really got a lot of feedback from the guy in Portugal who (eventually) got my '63, sure hope he's happy with it. I sorta wish I'd held on to it long enough to make the 50th but I probably wouldn't get to go anyway. If I showed up n a Fiat would you guys stone me? I could put MG badges on it for the day.

Actually, a Vette engine would probably produce more hp than a stock 948.. and maybe a bit more that a 1098 if all the cr*p was removed.... Still, with the abundence of better choices out there, I wonder why someone would choose a Chevette powertrain.. unless it was sittin out behind the shed already...

It's not the first time I've heard of a chevette (auto) swap - thinking of the era there weren't likely a lot of options and if you need it, automatic in a Midget still beats walking.

Of course you'd be welcome! anytime anywhere, though not in a Triumph - we have to draw the line somewhere.

Well, I was a few hours late on a nice TR8 that would have bought as the price was great. I'd buy a GT6 if I could find a decent one cheap, heck, who'm I kidd'n? I'd buy anything "cool" if the price were right.
