My ins. guy is retirering and it's time to shop around.
Here's who I have checked with.
I have St. Farm, I have checked with Progressive,Pemco,Geico, and Nationwide.
Any one else?

Keep with th' State Farm guys, Don.

...just go "interview" a few of 'em. And TELL 'em you're lookin' for an agent without an agenda.

Other than breaks when I was stationed overseas, I have had State Farm since 1975. Never a single problem. I am one happy customer.

SF SCREWWED ALLOT of people here after Katrina. They were "doctoring" claim info so they didn't have to pay or pay as little as possible. BIG uproar over this, suprised y'all haven't heard yet. Lots of folks head's rolled. Google SF Katrina and see what you come up w/. We have Allstate and they were GREAT after the storm. It all come down the the adjuster or the super over them when TSHTF.

Dont even come close to any of my vehicals if you have state farm. Much easier being hit by someone unisured than dealing with thoes clowns.

Insurance company factoid. They are all in it for the profit. State Farm is seeking a rate increase here in Louisiana of 19.1 percent! Louisiana has the highest homeowners' rates in the country already.

My nephew was graduated from Austin College in Texas some years ago. Bright kid from a good college, he was recruited by a regional insurance company as an auto claims adjuster for his first job after graduation. This lasted 3 years until he couldn't take it anymore. He told me, "Uncle Bill, we were paid bonuses to deny claims." That company now advertises nationally.

Now, health insurance. Don't get me started.

I have been with USAA for my autos and home for 40 years now. The beauty of USAA is there are no agents. All by phone. Works for me. A bit conservative but always fair. Call them if you have been or a parent has been an officer in any branch of the military. I think that is still a prerequisite.

I also have USAA since 1969 for everything - never a problem....actually, Bill, they've extended membership to senior NCO's, National Guard officers & seior NCO's - active or retired....& they're children....my daughter has it through me, son-in-law had it through his father, a retired Guard officer.

Only time I had a problem with State Farm was when a drunk totalled one of Jeri's cars.....SF wanted to replace it with a 'like' car....they found one way over in Dalton, GA & wanted me to drive over & look at it....when I started asking questions about it & its maintenance/repairs, I soon realized it wasn't 'like' so I told them $$$'s or court....their dollars were way below mine so we had a little fight which they lost...but it took a year...please don't hit me if you have SF.

Weird thing is dad has SF and they always have been good w/ him. (this before Katrina). When mom's '66 Mustang was stolen that dad restored, they paid him well for it. He's always been happy. Bill, I'm sure you've heard what's been going on a little further south w/ SF. It was especially bad on the MS gulf coast.

I've had Amica for over 10 years on the "boring" car (Mazda). Professional in every way. Had two claims (glass damage) that were paid within 3 days. I can't say anything negative about them at all.

Shop until you drop on car and home insurance. For me, I always shop Snake Farm and Allstate; Geico, and also a local Independent Agent (who represents a wide range of insurers and can provide the best deal he has).

I shop every year, but have been with GEICO for about 5 of the past 7 or so years. Always competitively priced.

Shop until you drop, that's how you find lower premiums. Auto and home insuranc premiums vary significantly among insurer for the same coverage, so it generally pays to shop around.

I have been with Erie Insurance for over 15 years for home and car. Never a question or problem with a claim. Never asked for a second estimate either...
I've been with Erie since 1984, through at least 5 different agents. I have nothing but praise for them in every aspect of how they've treated me over the years, and for their competitive prices as well. In that period of time I've had 3 or 4 claims (the last in 2008), with exactly the same (excellent) level of service reported by Brooklands.

Ditto goes for my J.C. Taylor policy on my Triumphs, although since 1986 with them I've only had to make one claim.

One piece of advice in dealing with someone else's insurance co. in a claim: whenever possible always report the claim to your insurance and have them reciprocate the claim with the other company themselves. Unless you have a really sticky/weak policy this should not reflect badly on you in any way, or effect your rates.

My last claim (in 2008) was when a 19 year girl old rear ended my wife's car. It was her 5th accident in 2 years, and her insurance was none to happy about paying. Erie took care of that for us. It's generally easier for them, since to a claims adjuster they're another rather big/scary insurance co. demanding money, and not some shlub off the street who says you owe them money for something.
