insurance

[ QUOTE ]
I agree that insurance is a rip-off for the collision component. The amount you pay out is way more than you will ever collect - and when you try to, they just raise your rates.

The only good part about insurance is the liability component. If under some awful circumstances you end up seriously injuring or killing someone and are sued, you will be glad you have the liability insurance.

I'd much rather have to submit a claim for damage to my own vehicle than for liability because I killed or injured another person. Cars can be replaced.

Make sure to keep all receipts for parts and work done to your car. they can help out when it comes time to collect. You can also hire an appraiser to help you get what the car is worth.
I don't think there is much I can do in the way of reducing insurance costs for a few years now. I got my first ticket 3 weeks ago followed by 2 others last week. Man this was a bad month and being 19 isn't going to help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Jon--

When I was about your age I lost my license for 90 days for too many speeding tickets. I realized that if my car were operative I would nevertheless drive, so I pulled off the cylinder head and had it milled and ported (of course so that I could go even faster) but that was my introduction to auto mechanics.

Me too, except I continued to drive & ended up with a big fine & 6 days in jail.

Luckily only two were for speeding and two were for expired registration. The rates were raised a few months after I registered my car and I didn't have a job or money. I finally got a decent(errr, it pays) job so it looks like I'll be working full time this summer to get out of the hole I've dug.
I've still got a ticket or two to go before the license is suspended but if it ever is I better disable the car!

I don't know about their product, but as far as advertisements go that of Leland West Insurance Brokers in the current issue of "Classic Motorsports" magazine sure caught my eye!

Just a small point to add to this thread: Coverage for crashing a car is not the only thing you need insurance for. I submit that for our LBCs that theft coverage is probably the more likely situation that needs coverage!

Tried the Hagarty qoute and it said it would be $90.00 US. Being in Canada it would cost be about $1000.00 Canadian and If my car was original in looks and passed an emision test then I could get collector plates and would still pay $300.00 ish . Govt insurance and no Competion!!
