Insurance - Grundy? What's up with them?

I received a renewal notice last month and sent it in with a check the first of this month. I filled in the spaces about adding a car and changing my coverage.

I found the check had been cashed a week or so ago but have not heard anything from them.

I logged into the website today and found some information that troubles me.

https://www.grundy.com/IsGrundystillmyinsuranceAgency.aspx

I called and the person I talked to seemed clueless but transferred me to someone else who supposedly could help me. He seemed more clueless. I'm beginning to wonder where my money went.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]As of October 20, 2011, Philadelphia Insurance (PHLY) has assumed administrative responsibilities of policies previously issued under the name "Grundy Worldwide" in all states except Massachusetts and South Carolina.

In 48 states, PHLY has imposed a "non-compete" on Grundy Insurance at the current time, which prohibits us from writing new Collector-Car-Only policies. We hope that in the future, the non-compete is reversed, rescinded or expired. Until that time, we can insure collector vehicles, but only in conjunction with other policies.[/QUOTE]

I looked up the "Philadelphia Insurance" website and found the collector car area by searching "Grundy" in their search engine.
They had a "Chat" feature so I used it.
This was the right move, the CSR helped me out - found my policy and sent it out as a PDF file and also my proof of insurance cards.
Policy paperwork still says Grundy, but it's Philadelphia handling the policy.

My check to Grundy cleared October 17th. Seems like I too was wondering where my insurance card was.

I didn't look at my new card very carefully until you mentioned it, Rick. Okay, on the insurance card it says Agency/Company issuing card: Grundy Worldwide. But at the top it says Company: Philadelphia Indemnity Insurance Company. It carries the PHLY logo, which has a liberty bell.

The renewal certificate has the Philadephia Indemnity Insurance Company name prominently at the top, and the words PRODUCER GRUNDY WORLDWIDE etc.

I don't know much about insurance, but perhaps Grundy has been re-insured by PHLY and PHLY decided one day this made no sense on account of... PHYL also sells collector car insurance.

I do know that previous insurance cards I received from Grundy had the PHLY logo on them.

My guess is, if they took your money you're okay, but I'd follow up!!

Good luck
Charlie

Oops--the weird thing is that went you click on the link on PHLY's website which says "visit us at our Collector Car Website"... it takes you to Grundy's website!!

So I am not sure I am convinced by my theory.

Yeah well I just wanted my cars insured and to have the proof of insurance my state requires. Calling Grundy on the phone was useless but chatting with the Philly gal produced results pronto.
Funny, at first she asked for copy of my canceled check.
I grabbed that from my online banking and sent it to her during our session so she was able to get it all together and send my policy and my cards almost immediately.

They agreed to $8K on my Bug-Midget so I'm happy about that.
Funny how bolting a sprite bonnet onto a 1500 Midget raises it's value so much... (I do have a few other goodies added on)

My Sprite is at $7K.

Rick, yah, I need that proof of insurance too. They were the only classic car insurance company I could find that did not require me to provide proof that I also own a daily driver at the address where the BE is registered. I have a daily driver, it is just located halfway across the USA.

According to the press release:

Established in 1947, Grundy Worldwide insures more than 1.5 million classic vehicles. The program was acquired by PHLY from the Grundy Agency in 2006.

According to Rick's excerpt:
In 48 states, PHLY has imposed a "non-compete" on Grundy Insurance at the current time, which prohibits us from writing new Collector-Car-Only policies.

If they have a partnership it doesn't sound like it's going very well, LOL.
