Scott, I'm a bit reluctant to pass out email addresses without permission, so I dropped Fred a note. Haven't heard back yet, so I'm guessing he's not checking email for whatever reason. Hopefully it's just a vacation, not health problems again.
He is still posting on the Triumph list on occassion, but a short note I sent him about a month ago went unanswered so he may not be checking email that often.
Eastwood Wrinkle Black was recommended to me for painting the instrument cluster on my old TR3 racecar by a concours-winner.
I sprayed it in the freezing-cold Lab one winter and the paint did not wrinkle. I removed the paint and resprayed it in the basement of The Boffins' Residence on the grounds of the HSTRL Facility where the woodstove was burning full-blast. Then the paint wrinkled quite nicely.
The photo doesn't show the cluster very well, but I just wanted to post this and brag on my work on the racecar interior.
Beautiful job John - the Mota-Lita wheel reminds me of a question I meant to ask the TR3 race community (at the risk of stealing this thread a little): Were you running with a rack and pinion there, and for that matter, were you allowed to change out the steering/suspension significantly without breaking the race rules?

I had the original worm-and-peg steering unit in the car.
Of course rules vary from organization to organization, but if I recall correctly, SVRA, which runs vintage races around this area, does not allow you to change the type of steering. You may modify the original steering, just not change the method of steering. You would have to read the regulations for the specific group in the specific organization in which the car is run, though.
Well, Randy, I looked through the SVRA regulations again and I didn't see any mention of steering in the general nor specific model regs.
The language about "not changing the type" does appear under suspension, and maybe, since steering is not addressed, I assumed that the same applies to steering as to suspension.
Thanks John- I was really just curious, I've seen plenty of pictures of the TR3s flying around in vintage races, but I wasn't sure how much modication the race group actually did - suspension mods I've seen such as using TR4 or TR6 pieces, but I wasn't sure if rack & pinion was a common change.
For what it's worth, I am restoring an EP Class Racing 1960 TR3A and it had the stock worm and peg as well.
I don't intend on taking it racing again (yet )but I have purchased a rack and pinion for it and it will be going on hopefully within the next month or so.
