Hi All,

One thing that continues to bother me through owning 2 MG's is the dimness of the dashpanel instrument lights using the stock bulbs. I've only seen one other suggested light, and it was 7.5 volts. Worked great for about an hour....

Has anyone come up with a replacement bulb that is a bit brighter than the standard bulb?

I checked Sylvania, and the bulb they recommend is not a screw-in type, but rather a bulb with two posts. Don't think this one would work as I couldn't screw it in.

I have the solution to your problem: Halogen bulbs.

Get thee to the Little British Car Co. website. Scroll down and click on the "Special Offers" link, and you'll find the halogen bulbs. If you don't know which ones to order, just send Jeff Zorn (LBCarCo owner) an email and ask, and he'll tell you which ones you need.

The halogen bulbs are a bit pricey, but very much worth it. I could barely see my gauges before. I put halogens in the fuel gauge, tach, speedo, and oil/temp, and am very happy with them.

I have had them in for two years now, and no problems. Just lots o' light. (In fact, my 66B doesn't have underdash liners, and there's so much light from the gauges at night that my feet are illuminated!)

This summer, I added halogen brake/turn and tail lights, for added visibility. They are noticeably brighter.

You're both welcome. I'm just passing it along, which is what this BBS is all about. I'm delighted when someone asks a question that I have an answer to, because I'm in the dark when it comes to so much of what is mechanical. Most of what I know about an MG has come from advice from this and other boards.
 
I think that I may indulge myself too. I used to think that it was just one of those things you have to live with.
