The bulb for my fuel gauge just burned out. Is there such a thing as a locally available source to buy a replacement or will I have to pay for shipping to me? I can't find a bulb number, just the fact that it draws 2.2 watts at 12 volts. It seems a waste to pay more for shipping than for replacements. If it comes down to it I suppose I can find other items to buy at the same time to offset the shipping.
 
I don't know Fry's. Is it an auto parts store? If it is, I'll try some of the local parts places.
 
It's a computer/electronics store. I bought from Napa, and some from online brit parts suppliers, and they kept popping. I bought from Fry's and haven't lost another instrument bulb...yet.
 
The last time I dealt with this issue I had to buy from one of the British parts vendors. To ease the pain I looked all over my car for other bits I needed or wanted and added them to the order. I also ordered several bulbs (many more than I needed) so I wouldn't have to go through this again when the next bulb failed.
 
One day when I really don't have anything else to do I'll build a new instrument light wiring harness and fit it with LEDs.
 
The multiple purchase for now sounds like the best way to go. I guess what I'll do is order some of each of the different types of bulbs so I'll have spares for all of them. I suspect that there will be other items in the catalog that can be included to offset the shipping costs.
 
At 2.2 watts, it sounds like either a #53 or #1446 will work. I just went through this on the Prefect. Darn car had two panel lights one was a bayonet style base (#53) and the other was a screw base (#1446). The #53 should be available at most any local parts store. I had to order the 1446.
