Installing windshield finishers

Greetings, all.
Can anyone give me some clues as to how to install windshield finishers - those chrome strips that allegedly slip into the windshield gasket - on an MGB-GT? I've tried heating the rubber with my wife's hair dryer to make it more pliable, to dripping dishwashing soap onto the rubber to make it more slippery, but for the life of me I can't get the stips to fit. They simply seem too wide for the gasket. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

They usually fit without much hassle. Maybe double check that the glass is seated all the way? That could be pinching the slot for the finisher strip.

Look at the "tool" in the Bentley manual also. I made one years ago using a short breyer and a wire coat hanger... I use silicone grease as a lube to install 'em. Glycerine (most pharmacy supply stores) works as well.

HTH!

Only way I've ever been successful is with the strange looking little tool

Thanks for the hints. I decided to splurge and buy the window fillet tool from mini mania. What I'll do with it after I finish the only windshield replacement I'll ever try (with any luck), I don't know. Suggestions are welcomed.

PM me when you are done and we will buy it from you. I have to put in a wind shield after the rain quits.
