Installing the pump, and cooling Q?

I'm installing the new water pump today and tomorrow. I had a couple <u>(of)</u> issues in <u>the</u> parts area<u>. W</u>hen I got the pump on there was an extra hole that I had to plug, so I go<u>t</u> that done. The only bad thing is I need a long screw.
Is it safe to use the anti freeze, it<u>'</u>s in a clean bucket and when I drained the car I drained it through a sieve to make sure there wasn’t anything in the fluid system, lucky from me there was not.
I put sealant on the gasket, <u>b</u>ut I can<u>'t</u> use it tonight. C[/i]</u>an I use it tomorrow or will I need to order a new gasket from the store?

I was wondering <u>also</u>, if<u>,</u> including the electric fans<u>,</u> if it would matter or help if I put the stock pulley and fan on the end of the pump to keep the engine keep even cooler<u>. O</u>r is that a bad idea, or pointless?

Wish me luck going to get the right bolt in the morning a<u>n</u>d have the new pulley in before I leave for church <u>and</u> then work.

Cheers,
Keenan Bash

Anti freeze should be fine to reuse if it is not dirty. After all it is summer.

Can't help with the rest of it, sorry.

Keenan, we've put water pumps on both our early and late model MGBs and never had a hole to plug. They are different for different years and you might want to call Moss or one of the other companies to make sure you have the right pump.
My two cents worth--good luck,

I do, <u>I</u> order<u>ed</u> it through a parts store for a 67 MGB. <u>S</u>o<u>,</u> it should be right<u>.</u> It<u>'</u>s made in Spain.

Keenan, there were 4 different pumps used from 62-80. you need a late model pump, unless the motor is a 65-71

Keenan - a photo would help..

I don't remember ever having to 'plug' an extra hole in a water pump.

Now, to the other questions: you can reuse the anti-freeze if you've strained it, pour it slowly so the last inch or so where the trash will settle doesn't get in your block (though I wouldn't reuse anti-freeze myself).

...toss the gasket & pick up a piece of gasket material at the parts house tomorrow to make a new one from...oh, why'd you put sealant on it anyway?

Now, as to the fans....don't put some aftermarket 'puller' fan on your radiator...but, if you want to put the original MGB fan on the water pump, that's okay - but unnecessary if your coolant system is operating properly.

Remember to keep everything in as close to factory operating efficiency as possible & don't put 'bandaids' on the engine to try & solve probems.
