TR2/3/3A Installing small body stone guard

Had the rear wings on and feeling pretty good about it when I noticed that I had left the small body stone guards off, sigh. Had to take the wings off for another reason so I'm ready to install the stone guards. Any hints, tips or other comments about the installation of those stone guards?

Your thoughts or comments about the installation of the guards greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Tinkerman

Not sure the wings have to be removed to install them - possibly just loosened enough they can be slipped into place.

You may have to tweak them a bit for a good fit. Depends in part where they came from. One well-known supplier sent me a set of the small ones that were so far removed from what would fit that I returned them and ordered from another source.

The ones I got also needed a lot of modification to fit. Fortunately they were oversize, and very soft, so it was easy to cut them down. Unfortunately, the body shop I paid to do the work did a lousy job of it. But no one seems to notice except me.

Yep Randall, we do tend to be our toughest critics. But I guess that's why we're in this hobby.

Dick,

If you kept the old ones to use as a pattern it really helps to"modify" the new ones. One my TR3 I spent the better part of a day working on those front/ small ones to get them to fit like the old ones. Like Randall the new ones had more material and needed to be cut down ( in my opinion). It has been a few years now and I am again working on a TR3 so will get to see how the newer ones are fitting. In my opinion the upper edge was made with way to much distance between the body and the guard.

Agree - here is the new as supplied (left) and the old as removed (right):

Note - the old one pictured was not original, it came from Vicky Brit some years back.

Thanks Geo your pictures helped and made quite a bit of sense to me about what I have to do.
I gather that not all of the hew replacement stone guards came from the same mfg?
They are not horribly expensive I may need to order another set for comparison purposes.

Thanks, Dick

I notice that on mine there are 2 small (1/8") holes drilled into the bottom and side sections. I' guessing some hold down screws? Any thoughts (size, lengths) on these?

Your thoughts and comments greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dick,
They are for screws. Size? Small, short sheet metal.
