TR6 Installing Retrosound?

Hey fellas,

Picked up a retrosound stereo, amp, sub and two speakers for install in the TR6. Will need to replace the double din radio and replace the two speakers.

those with experience, how long is this project? Can a novice do this?

Yes, you have a double DIN in there now? That is a bit unusual for a TR6. Anyway, putting in a stereo isn't very hard. Particularly in older car like a tr6
 
Installing it is straightforward. Less straightforward is figuring out where to put the speakers. In the Dark Ages, it was common to cut holes in panels to mount them; I would never do that today. In my P912, the rear outputs go to speaker enclosures set on the rear package shelf. I won't frighten you by describing what I did for the front speaker.

You will need dc power that is switched on and off by the ignition switch. It's a fair amount of current, so you might want to use a relay. You also need a direct, unswitched connection for the keep-alive voltage; that is only a trickle of current. Of course, everything should be fused.
 
My speakers are sitting behind the seats on the floor. No holes, no muss no fuss. As long as you are not tall and don't slide the seat all the way back there is room back there and they have nowhere to go, and you can't really see them. Probably not the best location for audio (much better with the top up. My TR4 had box speakers mounted in the foot wells, wich also worked on.


Stock TR6 has "kidney panels" on the sides of the dash support.

You can of course go to Mk1 MX5 seats and have the speakers in the headrests. Better seats and you can hear the radio most of the time. No holes required….
