TR6 Installing HVDA transmission.

Hello everyone! I am finally installing the W58 Toyota conversion from HVDA. I have received the conversion kit from Herman van den Akker and have placed the order for the "bent fingers" pressure plate. It should be received by the end of next week.

Herman has been quite helpful and supportive. His kit provided a DVD step by step instruction; however, there are some things, nonetheless, I still have questions on. Maybe some of you can be of help, as I do not want to hang on Herman's shirt sleeve for everything.

The DVD mentions upon lifting the new transmission into place, do not touch the flange at the end of the transmission as this could damage the rear oil seal therein. The comment I have most concern with is, "And if you turn the transmission flange, you're in trouble."

This concerns me. What is the "trouble" of which he speaks? In removing and replacing the flywheel, the engine turned, in tightening down the
bolts. Would this, in effect, put me into "trouble" in the same way as turning the transmission by its flange?

If I am in trouble, there must be a remedy. Any input? Thanks.

I have done three of these swaps WITHOUT his DVD and the only thing that I can come up with is that you do not want to 'support" the transmission with the flange. But just touching it to turn the gears inside for alignment should not be a problem.

Agree with Charley but if you've got 20 minutes, give Herman a call (he likes to talk and is a wealth of information.)

I thought he had gotten out of the business of selling the kits. Has he restarted or did you have a kit?

The latest issue (Sept. 2015) of Classic Motorsports has a quarter page advertisement for Herman's kit. I would think that he is still in business.

Hey Dennis
I am near you in Brentwood. I have installed the HVDA in my TR3 I could head out too Tracy and give you a hand. I am retired so any time is good.

Wow! Thank you for such a nice offer. I did not follow up on these last posts, so I missed this post. I will be working on my car today and would very much appreciate any help. It has been so long since I have posted on the Forum, I am rusty. I would like to post a picture, and we should probably exchange contact information via personal message, which again the process escapes me. I'll continue to poke around and contact you. Thanks again!

He recently sold me my kit, so I have to say he must still be doing this. Also, he mentioned he had a few other kits to deliver when preparing to deliver mine.
