GT6 Installing Fiero seats in My GT6 MK1

foxtrapper said:
Yes, you're really putting in some work to fit those seats. That's something lacking in many cases, where they are sorta just shoe-horned in place. So a tip of the hat to your creative work.

Fox, long time no see! Great to have you posting here again. Your extensive knowledge of these cars is a valuable asset here. Please keep posting.

Cheers.

I found Aftermarket seats from a CA vendor that I got to fit. they're tight, but by shimming the outer rail of the seat on each one, I can get them in the car (GT6 MK III) and I can adjust the back position like normal.

Here is the thread from the triumphexperience forum:

the link to the seat description no longer works, but here are the seats from the same supplier:

I bought the seats, cut out some of the side foam and bolted them to the floor pan.

Hello everyone, I got more done on the seat this week, and loaded three pics to the photo section. I found an easy way to re connect the back with out modifying it. I used 1/4"x1" strap iron bent it to fit the seat and welded what I'm calling an extension arm for the seat back to bolt to. This killed two birds with one stone because it also restored the rigidity that was lost due to cutting. The seat retains it's ability to recline, and the speaker wires come out in the perfect spot for routing to the radio...when I get to it. All I need to do now is cover the seat in such a way as to make it look like it belongs in a GT6. I have NO clue how to do upholstery so I guess I'm about to learn! Some one suggested just using the old seat cover as a template but I'm not adding as much foam as I took out and the seat's been changed any way. Any sane man at this point would take it to an upholstery shop but not me. I've built this car from the ground up with no second set of hands and hope to have those bragging rites at the end of the project!

Do any of you have suggestions? I'm all ears.

I have sewn headliners and other bits of vinyl trim but never seats and never anything that needs piping.

For some guidance, visit the link below to a thread in the Spridget forum. The OP there is sewing his own seat covers and he goes into some detail.

If the seat back is unaltered (foam wise) then you can probably remove the stitching holding the old seat cover together and use that as a pattern. For the seat squab, you will probably have to make some patterns up using kraft paper. However, you may be able to use the old cover, carefully modify it to fit (trimming and pinning) then use it for your pattern.

Mark, I didn't realize you sold the GT6. You still may like the Light-in-sight for the Spridget.
