TR2/3/3A Installing dzus fastners in bonnet

I'm trying to help a mechanically semi-illiterate friend install the dzus fastners on his car. And I'm doing it by phone, long distance. What I don't remember is should the piece (shaped like a hat) that extends in the bonnet flatten when the washer is pushed up to contact the groove in the dzus? I think so but it's been a couple of years since I installed mine and that's way too long for me to remember anything.

Reminds me of how good that thread is just looking back. So much work there.

Cheers
Tush

I'm still amazed Photobucket hasn't wiped the pics yet. Also makes me wish I was better at video like you!

Thanks John but unless I missed it that didn't answer my questions. I saw the bracket the dzus fastener attaches to but nothing else. I probably didn't phrase it right. What I'm interested in is the first piece that goes in the hole in the bonnet for the dzus fastener (shaped like a hat and I think Moss calls it a grommet, possibly washer). When you hammer everything together, does that get flatten against the bonnet? Again, I suspect it does since when dropped in the hole it extends about 1/4" through the bonnet, making everything too short otherwise and the washer doesn't catch the groove in the fastener.

Here is a tech tip from an old Moss newsletter (1984) describing the installation of the dzus fasteners. I don't like using a hammer to start the flare and made a cone for use with the bolt.

It’s there, Post #118! No hammer involved!

Go to page 6 then scroll down to post 118. There is a lot of stuff there before you get to the Dzus fastners.
