Installing Alternator

I am adding an alternator to my Sprite. The engine is a 1275.

The alternator has 2 large connectors and one small connector. My generator connected one heavy gauge wire (yellow and brown) with a large connector and also a smaller brown wire with a smaller connector. Both go to the relay (?)box.

This next apparently obvious question is because MOSS gave me a connector kit that explains there were 5 wires wired to the generator. Not in my case as I explained above. In my situation is it really as simple as conecting the large to the large and the small to the small?

Should something else be wired to the alternator?
Thanks. Happy 4th to you.

Ok first question, brand of alternator/ there are a couple of minor variations in connectivity. I've got nore on using Festive/Delco/etc/ but I know all little bit of additional info and someone on the list will be able to help.

According to Moss, the instruction say the following:
The Brown/Yellow wire will go on either of the
two larger leads and the Brown/Green wire will
go on the smaller lead. (See Illustration 5)
I think you are good to go as you suggested.

Good luck

You will need to wire around that control box (it is unused with an alternator)

First of all, your car must be wired as negative ground.

Next, you will need to remove the control box wiring.

All the heavy brown wires get connected together, including the one w/blue stripe.

Black wires get connected to ground

The yellow wire gets connected to the light weight yellow w/green stripe. This is your charge light indicator. Make sure your bulb is good.

The heavy gauge yellow wire is not used. Tape it off.

Not knowing what alternator you have, I can't give you any more specific info. Usually, you will have a +battery terminal. Using a fusible link is advisable for that. You will sometimes have a ground wire and the other terminal is usually a sense wire for the charging circuit.

There is some good info about converting alternators on my web site.

Sounds like the same alternator as the later Mini's & a lot of these other bmc cars.
The two big contacts you speak of which are 0.375" wide are both power out. The maximun output available is more that one contact can take. You should connect a fat wire (two 10AWG wires) to each & take them both to the battery.
The other smaller 0.25" contact is for the "exciting" circuit, i.e. 12v out through the alt bulb in the dash other side of the bulb to a switched +12v
