Installing a phone line in the garage

Howdy all!

Now that my garage is done, I'm planning on installing a phone line out there -- it's just out of reach for the cordless phone in my kitchen. Is this something I can consider doing myself or am I better off paying Verizon to run the line?

Thanks!

B.

Easy...find the closest phone to the garage...tie into its box & run a line out to the garage & install another cordless phone...you can buy everything you need at Lowe's!

just take your cell phone with ya...sorry I considered the same thing then realized with my cell why go through the work??? that is unless you need it for the alarm system...lanlines are only a matter of time!!

agree on the cell phone idea. if you expect someone to call on the landline, set your landline to forward calls to your cell.

wires are becoming "so 20th century"

cell phone isn't the greatest in my garage. Must be to shielded or something.
Works great in the house

I think the ultimate addition to a man's garage would be a urinal.

  What? The old anti-freeze jug wore out??

About two years ago I went cellular only at my house...about a year and a half ago I looked for a better alternative...I live in a wooded community and even though the cell tower is not too far away, reception is poor.

I settled on Vonage broadband service running over my high speed internet line and went with the Vtech 5.8Ghz digital wireless handsets. My phone router is in my home office and the garage is a good 100 feet away...with 4 walls (one is solid brick) in between. Reception is clear. The voice quality over the set is the best I've ever had...including the older twisted pair hard wired technology. The phones have more features than I've ever needed and I can check VM on any computer, anywhere.

At $24.99 a month (plus $5 of junk fees) for unlimited local and long distance, I think it's a good deal.

:iagree: TOTALLY!!! Vonage was the best thing that happened to my phone service!!! Bell South and ATT keep making sales calls and when I say I have Vonage there is silence and then a "sorry we can't beat that deal!"

First meeting with the plumber today to see about a bathroom in garage & sink in Jerri's outdoor kitchen...talked about a commode & sink in small bathroom...he asked if I also wanted a urinal...told him 'yep'!! Waiting on prices....

I have a vonage box I use for a third phone line. I've never had a problem with it, and if you have the need for it most calls to Europe are treated as local, free calls. Tons of options (far an above my ATT landline) too.

There, my $.02

What a lot of people don't realize is everyone does not live in an area that likes cell phones. My son lives in eastern Oklahoma, an area which is very hilly. His cell won't work at his home. Neither will mine! He carries a portable out to his hangar, about 200 feet from the house, and the reception on it is horrible. So, I'm just stating that a hard wire setup is required in some areas. Cell phones don't work well in eastern Oklahoma, unless your with in sight of a compatible tower.
