Installation of Convertible Top

I am ready to install a new convertible top on my BJ8. I have never done this before. I do have the Moss installation video. Questions: 1. what is a typical cost to have it professionally installed? 2. If I try to do it myself is it difficult to do or not too bad?

Thanks,

Larry

I have replaced several tops on Corvettes over the years and got pertty goo at it. HOWEVER! I put a new top on my Healey a couple of years ago, took a couple of weeks, really took my time and tried to do everything correctly, but I was never satisfied. If you have a local shop with a good reputation, that wont rip you off, I recommend they handle it. regards,

I have been told that a pro will quote 4 to 6 hours to install @60/hr that's $360.00 plus shop materials ~$20.00.

I replaced mine about four years ago and did not think the job was too difficult. It took a weekend to install.

The advise I received was:

Remove the shims (if any) where the top attaches to the frame.

Start at the back and work forward for a superior fit.

Make the top fit on the tight side; it will relax with time and fit perfectly. As it ages, add the shims back to keep it tight.

You might consider renting an air stapler to do the job. It will make things easier.

Four years later: It still looks great and fits nicely.

Good luck

Larry: My one suggestion here is to allow the top to sit out in the direct sun for as long as you can. This softens up the material and makes it more pliable for stratching. Other than this one small item the advice above is correct; back to front, stretching as best you can while attaching the top. AL Bradley
