Inspect Bugeye near San Diego?

Re-focused on the Bugeye hunt, and I've located an interesting car near San Diego. Chatting with the owner, car is described as original and rust free (we'll see...) I'm definitely interested, but I'm 700 miles away in Utah. Anyone in that area interested in looking the car over for me? I'll cover all expenses.

On another note, I've not read much good about the professional inspection companies. Anyone had any luck with them? With Car Quest 2.0 narrowed down to Bugeyes, I'm pretty much forced to look nationwide. I really don't want to buy a car without some sort of agent looking it over.

Your best agent of course is someone from here that has a Bugeye looking it over then looking at it your self if you get a positive report.

Where "near" San Diego? What town specifically?

I'm up in Orange County - next county closer to LA. Dealing with a sick wife and daughter right now, but happy to help if I can.

It's in Escondido. Not really sure where that is, but that's what the ad said.

It is about an hour away from me. I could possibly get down there on Tuesday night if that would work. PM me and we can chat.

You should have a PM...

drooartz, I live in SD about 20 miles from Escondido, if you can wait until this weekend I can make it out to wherever the car is and take pics with a digital camera, and give the car a good once over. I am far to busy during the week, and ruotinely do not get off work until dark, or I'd be there sooner.

I'm going to call the seller and try to get him to hold the car for me until next Monday. I figure a small deposit should do the trick. I think I've got a forum member to look at it tomorrow, but if that doesn't work out, I'll let you know.

gtg. anything I can do to help. I just figured since I'm a lot closer to escondido than he is. I can get an early start on saturday and check it out.

A big thanks goes out to the BCF members who volunteered to help me out with this car. Forum member Grantura_MKI went and looked at it today and gave me the full report--huge thanks to him for his time and efforts! Here's the basic lowdown on the car:

It is essentially as described, with a bit of rust in the driver's floorboard and a little more on one of the fender returns underneath. Biggest issues seem to be really bad shocks, needs a new wiring harness, and some possible transmission trouble going into 3rd gear. Oil pressure was good, although there may be some bearing issues down the road. Overall, seems to be a solid, essentially unrestored car. Pretty much what I am looking for. I'm going to sleep on it, but right now I'm leaning towards trying to make a deal with the seller in the morning.
