Hello my fellow LBC-mates,

I own a 1970 MGB GT since february and I'm curious about the history of the car. The last 16 years the car has been in Europe (The Netherlands), but until then the car was registered in the USA. With the car I also got the import papers from 1997. On these papers is the name and address of the last American owner of the car. I want to send him a letter and show him how his car looks like nowadays. I also have some questions for him, like if he also was the first owner of the car, how he enjoyed driving it and why he decided to sell it.

It has been some years since the car was shipped to Europe, so I don't know for shure if the PO still lives in San José, CA, but I think it's worth a shot!

Now I'm curious: has anyone of you done this kind of thing too? What are your results? Did you get a reply or interesting info?

I've had mixed results. Most of the cars I've owned were purchased directly from their PO's, so no real lack of info. The S-3 Elan had been purchased in England and shipped here to the States by a USAF officer, he divorced in 1970 and traded it in on a Chevette(!) for his ex... I got it from the Chevy dealer for near-nothing. His contact info was in the car so I called him, he didn't have much to offer other than complain about the "shortcomings" of the thing. I sorted it and never tried again to get info from any PO's.

In a "reverse" circumstance I sold our Lotus Cortina Mk-I to a guy someplace in either Sweden or Denmark IIRC and the agent who bought it (in'89 or so) told me they'd keep me up on the car's future... they lied. No idea where it went and I've grand seller's remorse for the sale. I could try to hunt it by chassis number but at this point it doesn't matter that much.

My buddy had it done both ways always with good results, except for the guy that found out someone lied to him about the age of the paint job.

Today the letter which I sent to the last American owner of my MGB GT came back unopened...
Apparently Mr Albert F. Ramirez doesn't live anymore at this specific address in San José, California.

I know it is a (very) wild guess, but I wondered if anyone on this forum might know Mr Ramirez? I would like to contact him, send him some pictures and information about the car and the hard work which is done on it. And, of course, I have some questions for him too. I understand that there might be a privacy issue regarding his current address, so all I would ask you is to give him my mail address and ask him if he would like to contact me.

I know the chances are very small, but if you could help me in any way on my search, I would be very thankful.

P.s. The California license plat number of the car was 572 DHK
 
I believe that licence plate would have been
registered in 1973 Blue/Gold plate.They first came
out in 1970,starting with "000 AAA".

That's right, it is a blue/gold plate. The car was first registered in 1972. I think it is the original first license plate.
