..Think I might be going to Indy qualifying for the 1st time, I presume some you have been there, any tips, advice, places to be etc., any help would be great.
Never been to the qualifying but went to Indy 500 some years ago. Had primo seats, under cover at the start/finish. Had to stay in Cincinnati because everything else was booked. The biggest single sporting event crowd in the world. Everyone has to do it once. We sat with the chocolate-covered strawberry crowd. The infield was worth watching, from afar.
Qualifying is great....and you can sit any place you wish....so roam around.
Sit behind the pits...sit on turn four...sit on turn one...sit in the main grandstand...sit as high as you can on the corners....and close to the pits...sit where there is a video screen directly across from you.
Be sure to visit the IMS Museum while you're there.
If you have time and it's not too crowded, eat lunch or dinner at the Union Jack Pub near Crawfordsville Road and High School Road.
Don't know your dates but the Mecum auction starts on the 19th. There should be a lot of high end cars there & I'm sure a quick Google search will find the location (near Indy as far as I know) & dates.
...Yes, sure did, mighty impressive, cars are not too interesting being "spec reacers", that was the only bad part. Still seeing those guys go into turn one flat is fantastic. Museum was worth the trip alone!
Pics to come.
