Inconsiderate Twits

My other pet peeve is people who drive around with their driving lights on (especially in the daytime)-
-you flash your high beams, then they flash theirs, rather
than switching them off.

Doug,

Maybe I can help you de-stress on this peeve. Many cars now come with day time running lights and/or headlights as standard (and mandatory in some countries). Everytime the car is started up the lights are on. So when you flash your high beams I assume that they flash theirs back as a sign that they don't have their high beams on. My recommendation is to ignore it! There's more important things to fixate on .. like all those drivers who don't use turn signals!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Cheers,
John

My IT,s pet peeve are those who parked in a handicaped parking space and jump out with a couple of kids and walk to the store entrance. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Too lazy to park somewhere else and too inconsiderate to care. Must be a mental handicap. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ditto that! I have a son in a wheelchair and can attest to how difficult it can be to transfer him from the truck to the chair ina "regular" spot.

It doesn't do any good to confront these folks that insist on inappropraite utilization of the space, as all they do is become defensive and *more* obnoxious. We've found that "reminding" them that they've forgotten their Handicap Parking Permit will generally let them know that they are in the wrong....and if we don't see that they've willingly moved their vehicle, I'm not opposed to calling the authorities to issue a $200 (here) ticket.

Go get em Rick.

Folks here seem to think stop signs mean slow.

I thought they meant "stop speeding" (at least for a few yards)

I agree with the Parking issue. Due to my wife's twin pregnancy and her extemely limited mobility in the third trimester, we've been granted temporary handicap parking passes for each of our vehicles. I refuse to take advantage of having the "power" when I'm in the car alone... not only does it go opposite of my moral compass, there would probably be some bad karma involved.

The last four cars I've owned had "flash to pass" on the dimmer stalk - and each of them flashed high-beams, whether the headlights were on or not. Maybe that's all their doing.

As for the DLRs - I had two Saturns that had permanent DLR-lamps that ran the highbeams on *supposedly* 50% power. I used to get high beam flashes all the time.

I think folks assume it actually means slow till others pass. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

my favorite ITs think the "right-turn lane" means race the guy in the going straight lane to get ahead of traffic at the stop light.

If only I had enough power in my B to keep up with the people that have done this.... I'd put every single one of them into the parallel parked cars on the other side of the intersection.

With no special effort, just basic manners, I get a lot more accomplished than seems right.

There is a reason that my drink is always done first at every Starbucks and Caribou I go into, regardless of the line. Every. Single. Time.

Here in Canada Daytime running lights are mandatory in all vehicles. Of course older vehicles get off(I think this started about mid 90's) but every Canadian car since that time has them as standard equipment....I think it's stupid

What I was referring to are the BRIGHT driving lights
that they have to keep on all of the time.
There's nothing like driving at night, only to be blinded
by oncoming traffic, when the driver will not turn off his driving lights.
I had this happen a lot while driving to Colorado,& back.

- Doug

I get that sometimes too, but it might just be normal bright headlights in some cases...Alot of those blueish BMW style lights can be blinding.

I don't think Doug is confusing the driving lights and the normal headlights for DLR's. Normally DLR's don't bother you because they can't hope to compete with the sun. They allow you to see the car better than when they are not on even in bright daylight, just like motorcycles, but can't blind other drivers during the day.

What Doug is talking about is quite common here in Colorado. MANY SUV's (and other vehicles) have 'accessory lights' mounted on/in the lower grill fascia/air dam (factory mounted too, not aftermarket). As soon as the sun drops the headlights AND the 'accessory lights' come on. Mostly because they think it makes them look cool as there is no real need for the extra lighting when your also driving around in a pretty well lit city.

The real rub is when your in a low sports car their 'accessory lights (which are higher powered lights than the standard headlights) are right at eye level.

A friend of mine with an old Mini has fun with them sometimes though. He has a full rallye light set up on the front of his Mini with the center star being a Cibie Super Oscar. He tries to get inconsiderate (for the sake of looking cool) people to turn off their 'accessory lights' with a flash to pass type of flash that only triggers his standard high beams. If they flash him with their brights he nails 'em with the rallye lights.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Not only do they not flash him again but they actually get the point and turn off their 'accessory lights'.

I read once that the HID's and Xenon's will glare very badly if the headlight lenses are not kept clean. It made sense to me when I have seen them bright but not offensive as well as bright, glaring and quite offensive.

Just some thoughts though.

I knew there was a reason I wanted rallye lights.

What I hate is the lifted 4X4's lights. When you are sitting in your LBC their lights (bright or not) are level with your head! There is no escaping them! Ive got "fog" lamps but you can only get around 60watts from most places around here. Perhaps I should look for the ones that state that they are for offroad or for show purposes only.

there ya go. No fog here I want really zingers.
