inboard disk brakes

Has anyone ever heard of converting a spitfire or GT6 diff to inboard disks. I have a GT6 mk3 with rotoflex joints. If I could mount the disks at the diff and remove the drums and back plates,I could remove some unsprung weight.I already have some ideas about converting the half-shafts to sliding spline ala TR6, but with flanges at each end for easy removal.
