A week ago yesterday, we lost our moderator, Tony Barnhill, of Gurley, Alabama when he was killed in a head-on collision. Tony had been our MG forum moderator for 9 years. He was a good friend to many people here at BCF and on many other forums. His funeral is today starting at 1PM Central Time. In remembrance of Tony, I will close the forum for one hour during his funeral time. We will re-open at 2PM Central Time. Please keep Tony and his wife, Jeri and family in your thoughts and prayers.

Good call Basil. Been thinking about it everyday and still have a hard time believing it.

A fitting gesture Basil.

I give you this one thought to keep -
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand horns that blow,
I am fresh glistening paint aglow.
I am English leather’s feel,
I am the turn of the steering wheel.
When you drive in the morning's hush
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of motor cars driven from the right,
I am the chamois that shines them bright.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still - in each new dawn.

From an old Native American Poem.

Appropriate, Basil.

Well done, Basil. I actually tried to log in out of habit and saw the note - definitely was an appropriate and thoughtful tribute to Tony.

I salute you, Basil, as I salute "The Colonel"

Thank You. This is a fitting tribute to a class man from a class man.

Good.

My wife and I went to Tony's visitation and memorial service today in Huntsville. It was a very moving experience and there were other members from the MGE and the BCF there as well. Tony's only daughter, Shannon, delivered a very moving eulogy, something that I don't think that I could have done. There were several members from the military there and a color guard from the JROTC unit that Tony had formed and taught for some time. There were four MGs there with black ribbons tied to their antennas. The word is that Jerri is out of the ICU and in a private room.

Thanks for the update Dennis.

very fitting tribute Basil. It is times like these that I am reminded why this is the best website of any on the internet. It is the heart of its members as led by it owner.

Dennis - thanks very much for the update! I'm so glad the JROTC color guard was there - what a fitting tribute to the man who started all for their school!

Just one more comment about the visitation, the memorial service was closed casket but it was open during the visitation and Tony was in his Dress Blues and low and behold, Tony had grease on his hands. It just seemed very fitting. I don't know whether they just couldn't get all the grease off or left it there on purpose as that was Tony.

Okay... that about broke me up. Laughter and tears concurrently. This isn't gettin' easier.

I think we wouldn't have expected anything else.

That's pretty neat Dennis. Thanks. It was too far for me to go, but there were several moments today when I stopped and had Tony ,Jerri and their family and friends on my mind. That little bit of info gave me a smile in a sea of otherwise dreary thoughts.

I've watched several flag ceremonies, and I will tell you that this one was the most moving I have ever seen. And it's not just because Tony and I were so close. The gentlemen who folded the flag and presented it to Shannon did so with an ubelievable amount of care and genuine regard for Tony. There were very few dry eyes in the crowd.

Words of the presenter (as best I can remember): "As I present this flag to you, I do so standing on Lt. Colonel Barnhill's shoulders..."

Wish you all could have been there.

Mickey

The flag presentastion always gets to me, too, Mickey. Thanks for relating that.

Dennis - sorry I missed connecting with you today. Did meet Dave Maples and Wray Lemke. I'm sure there were others there; just didn't hook up.
