I'm new here-introduction

Hi, I just registered and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Tristan (but you can call me mediahound /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) and I am looking to gain purchase of a new Mini Cooper S 2007 or 2008 (I'm giving myself an entire year to decide on all the options which I currently know very little about and to save up so hopefully I can pay cash for the car!).

I feel like the Cooper S is a lot of agility for the money considering how expensive 'sports' cars are these days. I'm really looking forward to having a 'drivers' car and also sharing in the Mini heritage which I've frankly only lately become interested in.

I'm not a Britsh car zealot though. I currently drive a 2000 Honda Civic Si, previously had a VW Corrado VR6, prior to that I had nameless and numerous other Japanese cars in addition to a Honda Elite scooter.

I currently have lotsa general questions like should I buy a 2007 or 2008? What color and pattern and options should I go for? What is the buying process like? It seems like the customization options when buying a new Mini are endless and so maybe others can learn something too, via my questions.

At any rate, I'm rambling now but I wanted to introduce myself and say 'hi' as a first step.

Welcome to the forum! My wife is wanting a new Mini also as her next car. She has a Miata now and, while she generally likes it, she misses having back seats. So she is very interested in teh Mini as a way to have an affordable "sports car" with back seats (so she can haul some of her friends around town). One thing is certain, and that is, if we do get a Mini is will definitley be the "S" and also probably be a convertible (We do live in New Mexico after all). AS for options, we have not even come close to deciding except she rather wants the instrument cluster in the dash (so that the speedo/tach are above the steering column). Beyond that, who knows.

Welcome!

My lab assistant at work bought a new '06 last week. It is a non "S" with standard wheels etc. Basically, it is the low-end model, but since it's the end of the year, he did a little better price-wise. It is *very* nice.

He tells me that he is already planning on replacing it with a turbo '08 "S" when it is paid off.
His '06 car has the cast-iron engine built in Brazil. The newest MINIs will have an all-aluminum Peugeot-built engine (shared with the Euro hot-hatch 207) (and are available with turbocharger instead of supercharger).

By-the-by, a fair number of folks here at British Car Forum own classic Minis and some of them refer to the new BMW-built cars as a "MINI" or "New-Mini", to distinquish them from the original, classic BMC Minis.

Anyway, hope you find the car you want!
