:[ I'm looking for

OK, I just looked at some Smith's gauges in an online catalog and sure enough they list 5/8-18 for the connection.

Geesh, I go to work and all of this happens. FANTASTIC!!

So I need 5/8-18 for the connection? If so I would like to find something that screws in and I can screw the sender in. Would hate to have something heliarced (sp?) to this brand new radiator.

Barry,
Everyone will never be in agreement that’s life. Learning along the way makes it interesting.
I am positive there are smith’s combination gauges that have BSP at some point during the manufacturing time, no question. I wonder if it’s “a” mid 50’s thing that there was a change.

Trevor, the major OD of a ¼” BSPP is 0.523 (measuring the tap itself).

I stay away from quoting the OD size of BSP.
I’d tend to measure the major diameter 5-7 threads from the large end and some would not. In tapping tapered pipe threads, I was taught to stop 5-7 threads short from full engagement of the tap and check for fit with a fitting. The rule of thumb is to check the theads for 1-1/2 to 3 threads engagement by hand before needing a wrench to seal. This surprisingly will get you very close to a gage fit (a tool inspectors use to check proper fitment, engagement).

Threads are fun!

So I talke to owner of the company that built my radiator today and he is going to pull the original that he has tomorrow. He is going to fabricate an adapter for me because I don't want to ship it back and have them fix it. Pretty nice guy!!

He said that the threads (off the top of his head) were 18mm x 1.8 or something like that .I was in the car on the way home a couldn't write it down. Any ideas as to what he was saying?
I will find out for sure tomorrow.

Barry,
Where is this radiator from?. The two "common" pitches for 18mm are 2.5 and 1.5 but....what brand is this radiator?

Dug

The name of the company is Wizard Cooling. The threads fit my bulb fitting perfectly. It just doesn't have the seat for the bulb.
