I've posted here a few times asking about potential Triumphs and received great help. Finally after 8 months of searching I've found one, so I've got a TR6 in my garage for the first time in about 16 years.
It's a 1972, amateur bodywork and paint (but looks great from 10 feet), new factory top, recent redlines, perfect frame and floors, rebuilt front and rear suspension, rebuilt diff, recent brakes, recent clutch slave. Poor dash and interior. The owner had driven it about 500 miles in the past 5 years, so it's done a lot of sitting. 82k miles on the clock.
I picked it up yesterday and drove it the 20 miles home on backroads and highways and it performed perfectly, except for some nice blue puffs out the tailpipe. I checked the oil before driving it home and saw it was filled way over the full mark on the dipstick. When I got home I was expecting to find water in the oil, but after carefully inspecting the oil after changing it, I found no sign of water, metal or anything else.
I don't plan on putting it on the road till spring. I've got a lot of things to do to it. It also has a chipped windshield (won't pass inspection, no horn and no brake lights).
It's going to take me some time and a few bucks to turn it into the commuter I've been looking for, but.... I'M IN!!!
