Different strokes and all that. My wife is rather fond of "stinky tofu", which is apparently a Chinese treat. Rather odorous, tho possibly not as bad as that fermented fish (even though it does have fermented fish in the mix). I have a hard time even being at the same table when she eats it!

Ahhh, stinky tofu. Analogous to eating a sweaty gym sock. (Not that I have done so...) No thanks!! Never been near fermented fish, so I can't compare the two.

However, I find it interesting how food made for survival in "ancient times" (i.e. before refrigeration, canning, long-distance transportation of food) becomes a delicacy in today's world. I think it is wonderful, but, at the same time, prefer a dish of canned herring to the fermented sort!

Wine and cheese, on the other hand, I quite like. Call me crazy.
 
Viet Namese "nook-mam", Korean Kimchee... nope.

But a tin of pickled herring, some cheese, crackers and a nice red Chianti and I'm in heaven.
 
How about these Doc! I love them, but the wife won't let me in the house with an open can! :highly_amused:

Those are pretty good Paul, I also like sardines (especially in mustard or Lousiana hot sauce) and smoked oysters.

I tried the shark while I was on hoilday in Iceland. I don't plan to repeat the experience

Its the stuff in the sealed jar (its a bit smelly and apparently puts the other customers off - hence the jar). Its served with Icelandic brandy to cover the taste of the shark and Icelandic beer to cover the taste of the brandy. The shark smelled so strongly of ammonia that the smell drowned out my sense of taste which was probably a good thing! :pukeface:
 
Smoked oysters on a skewer with stuffed (Pimento) green olives. Could eat the whole tin.
 
Cat food... all this stuff is rebranded Cat Food :rolleye:

We used to have Kippers on Sunday mornings. Smoked up the whole house. My mother had a cleaning woman who used to complain that she hated to clean because the whole house smelled from Kipling.
