I'm Back! Blue Hawaii (more like grey Hawaii)

Basil has been away for a week! Took SWMBO to Hawaii for our 50th (the anniversary was actually in May but we decided to push the trip to December to get away from the cold for a while). The weather was not kind to us with lots of overcast sky and rain, but there were a few moments of sun and overall we had a grand time.
We stayed in a suite at the Grand Waikikian hotel. Among the things we did and places we went: Did a lΕ«Κ»au at the Hale Koa hotel, and it was grand (I'll post images of that in a separate post). We also visited the Arizona memorial and the USS Missouri. That was a solo visit and it rained most of teh time. I'll also post images from that in a separate thread.

We were right on Waikiki beach so I have some pictures from there of course. We also hiked to the top of Diamond Head (whew) and drove out to North Shore and also Sandy Beach where I got a lot of surfer photos. Here are a few pics from the trip.

Somone knew I was coming! STOP for Basil!

Kid's probably been surfing since a toddler.

There is a surfer in this picture, I promise.

I just thought this silhouette was a cool picture against the blown-out ocean.

Reminds me of my occasional visits when my sub was homeported there.

Been to Hawaii a few times, never really got to wander much. It was always a stopover when going somewhere further west.
Made friends with the coy in the pond at the airport. :cautious:

That silhouette shot is super!!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
We went in '89 (I think). One day in Honolulu was enough for me.
We went to the Big Island & I thought it was much nicer.

We like Oahu because, being retired military, there are lots of things we can take advantage of, like shopping at the Commissary and BX at Hickam Field (much MUCH less expensive) and staying at the Hale Koa right on Waikiki (not where we stayed this time but we did eat breakfast there every morning). There are also a lot of Military discounts for many of the activities in the area. Honolulu itself is a bit crowded, but it was really nice once we got out of the city and went to Sandy Beach and North Shore, etc.

I agree - once you're out of the city it's much nicer.
We went to the North Shore & had dinner at Wiamea (sp)Falls.
The crowds had left,so it was enjoyable.

Blue Hawaii? 50th anniversary makes it "Hawaii 5-0".

Congrats!
