After a long and busy winter, I found myself with the opportunity to take this week off. Since last Friday I have been without any scheduled responsibilities. This has been my first real break since sometime in January -- full time job and gigging a bunch, with the winter ski season being the busiest time of year. No complaints, as the work (and corresponding pay) was welcome.

That said, it was time for a real break. Jenny and I discussed taking a trip, but in the end we both just wanted to relax at the old homestead. This proved to be just the thing for both of us. To top it all off, Christmas came early for me in the form of the delivery of my newly acquired 1970 MGB and some decent driving weather. I've spent most of the week driving both cars, enjoying the sunshine, and relaxing. I had almost forgotten how important these sort of breaks are.

So even though it's back to work for me tonight (4 shows this weekend, then to the office Monday morning), it's been a wonderful, restful, exciting week for me. The smile is big and genuine these days! I'm finally able to give full run to my inner car guy, and it's a bunch of fun.

I'd like to send out an extra thank you to Dave Graves (14dna) who did the on-the-ground inspection for the MGB and even sent along a spare manual for the car. It wouldn't be in my driveway without his help.

That is a "GREAT" picture Drew.
I am so glad to have been a help.
And, I love that last line about the Camry.

Dave
P.S. Annie loves both cars, but still won't let me spend pension money on one!

I think TuneBug is blushing.

It's been so nice where I live for so long now that I have to cast far afield to find some reason to complain. -- elrey

Here's to your new driving experience, I'm assuming this is a right-hooker...

One member in our local club has a right-hooker '61 Healey Sprite often seen at club events...

Thanks all. It's truly not about having the new car or in fact about having any/all of the cars and the bike. It's about being able to be who I am, and a big part of that is being a car guy. Most of my local friends don't understand this, and I no longer care. You take the cars away and I'm still an old car guy, and always will be. It's as deeply part of me as being a musician is -- not something I do, it's something I am.

There's a great Peter Egan column about having vs doing. Speaks directly to this issue. Worth digging up for a read. After a rough and busy winter, it's nice to be back to doing.

Some other justifications (as if they're necessary  )...

A) You can only drive (ride) one at a time.
B) Mileage on any of 'em beats all but the (impractical) eco-box electric hybrids.
C) You're a <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Conservator of History</span></span>!

I can do that, be a Conservator of History! :thankyousign:

WOW!

Conservator of History!

I am old enough to be history. Does that mean eating well and all the rest of it?
