I'm 6ft3 - any point even trying a Midget?!

Hello everyone,

I'm a British guy who's just moved to San Francisco - and i'd love to tackle these hills in an MG Midget...

I was thinking of going to look at a 1967 Mark III today.

Question is though: at 6ft3, will I even fit in the cock pit?!

Any Midget owners out there?

Thanks

J

Barely - you'll have to lower the top to get in...I'm 6' even & am comfortable in my Midgets - but have a real hard time getting in or out if the top is up.

Try an MGB.

I'm 5' 6" and have the seat all the way back and can plunge the clutch fully. Can you just get a ride in it, see how you feel?

I think you need to go out and sit in one & drive it. I am 5'10" and weigh 180 pounds and I fit in the Midget fine. I do have the seat pushed all the way back but there is plenty of leg room and headroom. It is a small car but it is fun to drive.

Actually, for top-down motoring, you should look into a Mini convertible. I've heard of people who are 6'5" & love theirs.

im 6'1 and my midget felt really cramped till i sat in it a while...dont even notice now as all u can do while driving is stare at the road : ) top up i have a good 4 or 5 inches above me still, no problem.....zimmmy

Midgets are OK for tall people with long legs, but long torso people have more problems.

I recently spent 4 1/2 days covering 3500+ miles in a '72 Midget with no problems. I'm 6' 1 1/2" and my co-driver is 6' 3"+ and neither of us had any problems with fitting. See member articles for BABE 2006 Rally.

I gnuess at age 60, its just getting harder & harder to get in & out of the little cars!

Thanks everyone - I'm going for a test drive tomorrow..and then I've got an MGB test on Tuesday...

I'll let you know if I squeeze in OK...I guess I'm lucky - my brother is 6ft7 and only gets to drive SUVs..!

I'm 6'2" and have problems with legroom. Modified pedal assy. The earlier midgets have less room that the early 70's and never have sit in a mid to late 70's.

I know it sounds weird - but I sat in a friend's 1970 and actually has more leg room than me.

Take it for a drive and make your own call. I need to stretch every so often.

at 6'-1", I'm a-ok with the top down, but feel cramped with the top up. I basically don't drive with the top up nowadays.

The interior really fits like a glove, it's a tight fit but everyting is in the right place. The problem with the top up is that I have to hunch forward a little or slouch, and I don't feel as comfortable....

6' 1" and I fit better in my Bugeye than I did in the TR4 I had before. It's a bit tight, but manageable. Since all Spridgets used the same basic floorpan, I'd expect them all to fit similarly. Later cars had different seats, though, and the earlier sidescreen cars have a bit more elbow room.

If you want to fit, you will! Good luck.

Does the 67 have the stupid radio console thing? Pulling that travisty of design out made a big difference in my comfort. Now I can drive without severing my kneecap!

good point Morris. I pulled it too and feel like I have alot more leg/knee room.

I just installed a removable steering wheel a couple of days ago too, that makes getting in and out a breeze!

do the earlier cars not have the center console? I too find that during autocrossing, it's a huge PITA, with great knee cap pain generally resulting from the bruises I get while trying to brace myself on that pointy thing!

Earlier Midget / Sprites did NOT have that wonderful console. I just feel I could use another 2 - 3" more leg room without cramping up my hammy.

Hope to get lucky this winter with an interior re-do and might get luck with seat configuration or something of the sorts.
