Ignition Tumbler Replacement

New here to the TR forum. Just bought a 67 TR4A which needs the ignition switch replaced. I have a new ignition switch and I have the original tumbler out of the old one. Now I am struggling to get the tumbler into the new switch. Little spring loaded cam at the end of the tumbler needs to be depressed to get it driven to the back of the new switch, but unclear on how to do that. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

Usually has a spot not at 12 o clock that it will slide in. Depress it and with the key in turn it to a few degrees off center and it should slide all the way in. That little cam should then lock it in the housing.

PM me if you need more info!

There should be a ramp built into the switch that will depress the pin. Make sure the tumbler orientation matches the switch orientation (look down the bore for the ramp) and then just push it home. Some gentle encouragement with a block of wood & hammer may be needed.

BTW, welcome to the asylum.

Absolutely and the car now starts without having to reach under the hood to push the solenoid button. First of many projects on this car. Thanks again

Ha! I'm going through this with my Landy right now. I discovered it is actually cheaper to have the ignition switch rebuilt with new tumblers than order a new Land Rover part. I guess you can take the cars out of Britain, but you can't take the British out of the cars...
