The tube heats the intake manifold and makes it possible to get off of the choke much earlier. Of course it is warm in PR so this is not really much of a problem for Dale. The heating tube was missing on my car (I jammed in a new tube, the design is a bit different on the 4 cyl cars, and it is not threaded, the tube was cast in place) It makes no real difference when it is warm, but on cool mornings there is a several minute difference when the engine can come off the choke and run properly.
