My ignition switch has failed. It is marked "FA 525". I assume I need to get a switch with this number in order to have the boot and ignition keyed the same. Where can I get such a switch?
Keyed the same? I thought my ignition switch and boot lock were original, however they are different keys. You've been Healey-ing longer than I so am I to assume one key for both was the original configuration? I can't say I've ever seen a "lock set" sold aftermarket. I suspect others will know.
Hi Michael,
It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure you can pull the tumbler out of the old switch and install it in the new switch. Unless that is the part that failed...
Looked at an old photo. Yes, the tumbler can be removed.
Yes, I have since learned that you can simply change the lock portion from any one to another. Since it is the switch body portion of mine that is broken (one of the screw-in terminals cracked and will not allow me to get the contact to come tight resulting in an intermittent connection to, amongst other things, the fuel pumps) I will fix it as you suggest. I have another on the way.
On the side of the switch, you will see a hole. Turn the key until you
see the brass pin. Depress the pin (Small center punch) with key in the lock and pull gently. The lock insert will come out of the switch. You may also have a brass case at the end of the lock insert, sometimes it does not come out with the insert. If you have one with the brass insert (Older cars) pull slowly as there is a spring loaded pin in the end of the lock insert.
