T-Series IGNITION SWITCH

Something new happens every day, doesn't it. These lovely MG's are there for us to love back to health, right?

I got the 75 B on the road, it stalled out, but I did get it home.

The starter stuck on and srayed on until I saw the problem. It didn't burn the starter out, thank Goodness. However, the switch didn't turn off and the red light stayed on.

Do you all think the switch is bad?
Can it be repaired, easily?

The starter staying engaged could be caused either by a faulty contact in the ignition switch continuously supplying power to the starter solenoid, or the heavy duty contacts in the solenoid becoming "stuck" or welded together.

If you mean you turned the key back to the off position and the engine kept running... and/or the engine stopped but the red charge warning light stayed on, this would seem to point to the ignition switch being bad.

EDIT: Sorry... repair is by replacement unless you're feeling adventurous and lucky. With care, you can move the lock core from your existing switch to the new one. If '75s used the same style of Lucas switch as earlier cars, look for an access hole on the side of the old switch. Use a flashlight to look in the hole to find a release pin that must be depressed to extract the old lock core. Reverse the process to insert the old core in your new switch.
