How is the ignition switch held in place?? Mine is kinda sloppy but I don't see an obvious way to tightening it up?
 
Do you see a chromed ring around the front side, a ring with two little slots 180 degrees apart? That holds the front, and a thin hex nut holds the back.

That outer ring is a royal pain to tighten, although there is a special tool available, known as a "dash nut spanner" from British Tool Company in Michigan. The tool is $25, but the first time you use it after you've slipped with the pair of screwdrivers and gouged your veneer dash, you'll thank yourself for spending the money! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
 
Andy the 6 ign. switch is under the steering wheel and not near the dash. What part is loose?
 
yeah, it's the 6....and it's the entire thing, the whole big black assembly that hangs from the dash. I thought it would just be bolted there or something, but I can't make heads or tails of what is going on to keep it.
 
yeah....I guess it does "hang from the steering column".....
Don sent me an email with a nice diagram...so I should be able to figure it out now.

Can someone share the wealth, please? Mine is doing the same thing! (which seems to be shifting the tumbler, too, as sometimes I have to wiggle the thing around a bit before the key will go all the way into the ignition!)
 
That sound internal,don't think The tightening will help your problem.

The ignition switch fits behind the ignition lock. The switch and lock mechanism are keyed to prevent the switch from turning. The whole thing is held in place by the black boot that slides up the wires, over the switch to the recess on the lock.

Not the best of designs. You may need to relieve the strain on the wires to the switch to keep the boot in place, or try to place a tie warp over the boot to secure it to the switch housing.
