Ignition rotor recommendations - odd failure

Driving in 1st gear, uphill, BJ8 dead slow and the engine quits and wouldn't restart. Test light showed power to the points. Check wires. The ignition rotor looked absolutely fine. But no spark at the plug. Replaced rotor and off we go. I don't know what brand the failed rotor is but it says "Made in W Germany" so that indicates how long it has been in use.
- Who makes a good rotor? I remember some were junk.
- Have you ever seen one fail when it looks fine? I don't see any hairline cracks or a loose rivet.
 
I've heard good things about these, but I haven't tried them cuz I have a Mallory. Advanced Distributors

Many times they short internally to the rivet then to the distributor shaft that is at Chassis GND.

If you want to alleviate this problem and use readily available rotors.

Buy a new rotor remove the rivet and the spring clip, fill the void left where the rivet was removed with JB Weld.--Fwiw--Keoke
 
Moss has Lucas and "aftermarket". Anything better out there? This West German one has a rivet with a threaded hole in the center of the rivet head. What's with that?

Yes I can also swear to using the Moss "premium" rotor, 1 1/2 years no problem. Bought two, keep one in trunk for a spare, have had to loan out my spare to other's twice.

Hi Andy65,

With a CD ignition and after installing a hot coil, I purchased (2) Advanced Distributor rotors for $15 when rotors from others manufacturers were in question. I installed the first rotor and kept the second in the glove box just in case. For the past three years of commonly shifting at around 5K I have had no misfires or any other ignition issues.

I am definitely satisfied with the rotors from Advanced Distributor.

Hi Andy - Get the red rotor from Advanced Distributor - it's made a big diference for my 100-6. and even my sprites.
 
Thanks Keoke, in fact I do have a pertronix but never installed it. Couldn't really see a need for it.
