Ignition Key Malfunction

Group,
My BJ8 ignition key is getting picky. It turns the car over all the time, but the connection to the coil is not there all the time when the starter is going. I tested this by running a wire from a hot fuse direct to the coil and the car starts quickly that way. I can feel like there is a spot in the key turn where a disconnect is happening to the wire to the coil. Once started and the key is back to the run position, it works fine.
So, can you replace the ignition with the console in place? I really don't want to remove the console if possible.

Run a wire from the start wire on the starter solenoid up to the coil so that when the engine is cranking over there will be power to the coil.

I have changed the switch with the console in place, but then I didn't have any AC to get in the way.

I think you can; I've had to replace a couple O/D switches and don't recall having to remove the console, though it would probably be easier if you did (if you have a radio it will have to come out).

back to running a wire from the solenoid to the coil. If you do that, once the car is running it will feed power back to the solenoid full time. I think there is a electrical component that would only allow power to run one direction, but I can't remember what it is called?

Just curious if you have a lot of keys and junk pulling on the lock. I have had the ignition cut out with all the stuff on the key ring. Try just the key and one or two other things to lighten the load on the lock. It has been working fine for a year. I bought a new lock housing (I can reuse the lock mech with the new part) and I am just waiting for it to kick out again as I am not excited about removing the console again.
