Sounds good KSIS. I was thinking Friday afternoon for the festival, but Saturday may be more realistic. I could add a growler of Horseheads Brewing to that stash. You gonna be there all day?
Ya never know Randy, but my "reasonable" is going up now. I made some real good headway today.
Got the metalwork done on the drivers side dogleg, did some other random welding to some cracks and such that needed to be fixed. Managed to get all the left side fender mounting areas painted and the fenders back on. Drivers door jamb is painted, and the door is on. I also took out the door opening brace I welded in years ago when I lifted the body.
I also got the rest of the front fender stripped, and it's not too far off from being primed.
The drivers side is really looking like a TR2 again!
If I get a chance tomorrow It'll see some DP primer on that side.
 
6 years? You're a piker, son! My E-Type has been in my garage for, heck, I forget how long!
 
hehehehe.. I was at least smart enough to realize that the 58 Jag I had was outta my league. I started looking at prices to get what I needed, and it promptly went up for sale.
I wish I had it back as a potential rat-rod project, but on the other hand, I'd hate to see it get chopped up like that. I think I did the right thing there.

Pics?! you want pics? Well, the garage is a total wreck after yesterdays work frenzy, as you can see. but this pic shows all the long removed panels returned to their proper positions, minus the nasty flaky paint they once wore.
It was cold and rainy today, so I was less than motivated to clean up, or do any more work.and the pics came out kinda dark. This week will see more progress.

As one of the guys said, make a list of items that you can get done now. Keep the list small and cross them off as you go. From time to time make a new list and work this list until done or if you can't finish the list then make a new one that can be done. By the time all is said and done you will have made 100+ lists but you can look at the smaller list and feel like you got something done.

Remember what is the goal for this car. If it is to get it on the road then the list gets shorter, if it to have a great restored car that you only have to maintain then the list gets longer.


Don't feel bad about leaving a project for weeks or months sometimes. It is like a good wine, you need to let it age.
 
I just looked at your photos. They remind me of why after restoring an MGA in 1982, I never wanted to restore another car, and never intended to.

As lack of luck would have it, I found a TR3 on Craig's list in fall 2009 that supposedly needed nothing. That of course turned out not to be the case.

I was really reluctant to begin a restoration process again, but it turned out that a garage lift I bought years ago to store a car made quite a big difference this time and I have really enjoyed the process. Among other things, not having to repeatedly get up and down made it so much easier, as of course did not having to slide under the car. Also, being able to see and do my work at the best angle just made it that much better. Probably one of the best parts was that it let me raise the project up out of sight for a while when I just don't want to deal with it!

Its been so good that I finished the TR3 in the spring and am now working on a MGTF. Anyway, its just something that you may want to consider (and no, I don't sell lifts).
 
I was in the same boat 'bout 3 years ago. Had a TR6 that was complete but in need of total resto. Went gung-ho stripping it down till I had the frame standing on it's side under a tarp outside my garage and the body shell on blocks in my garage. It sat that way for 10 years!

I eventually got rid of it in 2009 and started looking for a new project - this time a rolling resto.

Picked up my TR4A last September and have been enjoying every minute of it. I've been driving it a lot and I've already done more work to it in the span of 1 year than I accomplished in the entire 10 years I had the TR6!

I say, cut your losses - and find a new project that you can drive!
 
Just went back to my resto-log/notebook...

Purchased car (62 TR4)in running/driving condition October 2003.
Began tear-down June 2005
Presently (September 2011); totally stripped (of parts) body tub sitting in corner of garage, freshly painted chassis on jackstands in center of garage with fully restored front suspension assembled. Boxes, of old and new parts everywhere!

Been through all the emotions expressed above at some point or another past five years.

Do hope to drive it in 2012...or 13!

As a frame of reference, my father in law parked his '58 100/6 in a warehouse in '79 (purchased it in '63 and drove it) and started a nut/bolt restoration in 2000. Update (2011), interior is just being installed now. Hope to have on the road in 2012!

About 2 1/2 years in....notice on the last picture the redone air filters and oil filler cap....I could have bought new but what is the point there...

Last night apron support brace....tonight is the spring/pin assembly.....
