If it sells for less than $800!

We'll see!

Alright, Tony! Go for it!

Basil - if you want it, I'll back out...I just thought it was neat!

No, you misunderstand...I meant if you get it that will be two of us here with Daimlers! (I have a 1950 Special Sports Coupe). I wasn't intending to bid on it - my 30th anniversary is this Friday and it would be a shame to get a divorce just before that! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

K...what can you tell me about the model of the one on eBay...seller isn't providing any additional info or photos, so far...

Looks like a DB18 Consort. I think its the same chassis and engine as in my Special Sports, in which case performance is underwhelming (don't buy it if you are at all interested in performance). It uses as pre-selector gearbox (you select the gear you want, then press and release a "selector pedal" to change the gear (it is in the place where a clutch pedal would be). It also uses a fluid flywheel to transfer power to the gearbox. It is a very simple version of a torque converter that is filled with simple 30-weight oil. The result is a very smooth shifting car that will cruise nicely at highway speeds, but which has rather lack-luster acceleration. Brakes are "interesting" as well. Mine are mechanical in the rear and hydrolic in front. Not sure about the Consort brakes, but probably the same.

If it matters to you... The value of a plain jane "saloon car" version of the Daimler doesn't have nearly as much value as the more special versions, and likely less interesting in general.

But then, aren't they all special in their own way... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

FWIW- since the price has held for a day or so, and there was strong interest from at least one other bidder, I would expect a strong last second bid to try and win it. But, you've used ebay enough to probably know how to handle that. Best of luck!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I guess I now need to say "if it sells for less than $900..."

I was locked in a classified exercise all day & by time I got to a computer, it was over...oh well, at least I don't have to drive to DC when I get back from Korea!

Oh, Dart, how do you know he was willing to go higher than $1,425?

His bid was placed at 4, there were 3 bidders in the last minute or so at 12 who just kept pushing his bid up to the necessary level to be the winner. Always possible that was as high as he had bid, but not likely...IMHO
