IE-10 in W-8 problem [about blank]

Anyone know how to fix an error that constantly plages my computer. Every time a program pops up that uses IE, a second box pops up showing an error and wants to shut down IE! It's "about blank" and it's getting frustrating. I didn't have this problem with earlier versions and I'm told no earlier versions will work in W-8! Anyone know a fix? I run registry fixers, web mail, anti virus etc, etc, programs and it still keeps coming back. This is another reason I hate this W-8 and some of it's programing that lock you in to their way of thinking and allows very few changes. Sounds like it's run by the present government. PJ

Paul - is IE10 installed on your computer? Made any changes to it?

Tom

Tom, it's a new computer, 3 weeks old! Came with W-8 and IE-10 installed. Has done this almost since day one! I tried to buy a lap top with W-7 in it and Best Buy didn't have a one. So I bit the bullet, so to speak, and went along with the crowd. Sorry move. Also the computer is a Toshiba,(crappy), should have bought an HP! You know what they say about hind sight. PJ

So you're having this problem on your new W8 machine, but not with IE10 you installed on the older machine.

You mention "Every time a program pops up that uses IE, a second box pops up showing an error and wants to shut down IE".

Which programs are trying to use IE?

Thanks.
Tom

I will tell you that I have used mostly Gatestuff, and am happy with XP, but if I have to do anything else, it will not be MS for any reason.

Earth to Paul ... Earth to Paul ...

What programs are trying to use IE?

Tom

I know zero about Win8, but I'll venture a guess. If more than one program is causing this event to happen, it may be a security feature of Windows. Locking IE down if a call out to the internet isn't started with a mouse click.

Thanks Greg. That's why I'm hoping Paul will tell us what programs were trying to use IE.

It doesn't seem to make a difference what site is opened up when on IE. OK, I'll explain it the best I can. When in IE-10 and I search for a site, it will pop up. Then when I open that site, IE throws a flag up and says Internet explorer shutting down. It does it all the time and it makes no difference what program or site it brings up. I believe it's an incompatibility problem, but no programs seem to know what it is! W-8 has bugs, I don't care what MS says. It came out too fast and wasn't fully de bugged or ready for the general public! I've now shut IE down, but it's still deep in the system and can't be removed. This is not the only issue with W-8, but so far it's the worst. PJ

Paul - were you using IE10 when you posted to BCF?

Tom

Given the time of year, everytime I see the subject of this thread, I think someone's having tax issues...

No Tom, I was using fire Fox. I also have the last issue of Flock that I use when I'm displaying photos. I hardly ever use IE, it's just that a lot of the stuff on the net that pops up is using IE and that's were the trouble begins. I found out from MS that it can be disabled in this computer and I tried it. It does disable it as if it's not even in the computer, but it still is in the background somewhere. Didn't help, even temporarily disabled all the apps, didn't help either. Should have kept the old HP, but I gave it to a friend who lost his in the storm Sandy, along with over $20,000.00 in damages. Aha! that might be a clue. Can you change your "default browser" to FireFox?

Tom

I did just that Tom! I get no crazy problems on Fire Fox! PJ

Great - you solved the problem!

When in doubt ... leave it out!

Unless you have a hand-held with a touch screen, Win-8 is to be avoided. 445037.png
